Why Our Inspections Matter

Our inspections ensure your current or future Quench vent pathway projects are compliant with relevant manufacturer and regulatory standards. Our services can help prevent costly structural damage, litigation, and regulatory deficits.

Every inspection includes:

  • A full report with documented findings
  • Actionable recommendations
  • Comprehensive photo documentation
  • Easy-to-understand reports that meet your site-specific reporting requirements.

Advantages of Visual Inspections

  • Cost-Effectiveness: Our visual inspections do not require sophisticated and costly equipment involved with other inspection methods.
  • Non-Invasive: Our non-invasive visual inspections do not alter or damage the vent system, ensuring its integrity throughout the inspection process.
  • Versatility: Inspections conducted on a wide range of vent locations, including rural, industrial, urban, and metropolitan areas. Inspections performed day or night to suit the specific needs of your facility and minimize downtime.

Limitations of Visual Inspections

  • Line of Sight Requirement: Effective visual inspection of the entire vent pathway can be challenging for vent systems with complex pathways and hard-to-reach areas.
  • Environment: Adverse and dangerous conditions, such as extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and electrical power lines, can complicate the inspection process and require specialized equipment.
  • Complete Internal Vent Inspection: This can only be performed with our camera-reel inspection system, requires close coordination with your service personnel, and may require de-energizing of the MR system.

How Visual Testing Works: Basic Principles

We visually examine the quench vent system to identify safety concerns along the vent pathway and at the discharge point. This can be done directly or with the aid of optical tools.

Steps in the Visual Testing Process:

1. Site Preparation

Coordinate access to inspection areas with facility personnel.

2. Inspection

Employ different techniques to detect vent material deficiencies and discontinuities along the quench vent pathway. Thoroughly inspect the vent discharge point for obstructions, identify and assess possible safety hazards, and ensure compliance with manufacturer and regulatory safety signage and fencing requirements.

3. Reporting

Easy to read, actionable post-inspection report with photos that document the findings, including: any discrepancies, defects, or safety vulnerabilities identified.

4. Remediate

Once we've completed your report, we will work closely with your facility or MR vendor to remediate any issues such as;  applying  proper identification or warning signage if deficient,  addressing any potential safety concerns, or removal of debris from in and around the vent and discharge area.

At QVIS we utilize both direct visual inspection and remote visual inspection...

Deciding which method to use depends on our ability to access and view key components of the vent system.

Types of Inspections

Direct Visual Inspection

  • Involves direct observation with the naked eye or simple tools like binoculars and telephoto cameras.
  • Simple aids such as mirrors and directional lights may be used to improve the angle of vision and assist in the inspection.
  • Typically used when the inspection area is easily accessible and visible without complex equipment.

Remote Visual Inspection

  • Utilizes advanced optical instruments such as borescopes and videoscopes to visually inspect areas that are difficult to access.
  • Typically used when vent discharges are located in hard-to-reach spaces or when internal inspection of the entire vent pathway is required.

Protect Your Facility With Quench Integrity

MR QUENCH VENT SYSTEMS AND DISCHARGE POINTS ARE TYPICALLY THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MR FACILITY TO SAFELY MAINTAIN AND PROPERLY INSPECT ANNUALLY.

DON'T ASSUME YOUR VENT DISCHARGE SYSTEM IS BEING PROPERLY INSPECTED...

See what your MR unit's instructions for use says about quench vent inspections and contact your MR vendor for clarity on where their quench inspection responsibility ends and where your facilities begin. Then contact us to help mitigate your facilities risk with a reliable Quench Integrity program.
